Daniel Mihoc, Λέκτορας “The Mighty Angel with a Little Book (Rev 10)”

This paper tries to offer a fresh commentary and a theological evaluation of the vision in Rev 10 in the context of the Book of Revelation. How the interpreters (old and new) did understand the vision described in Rev 10? Who is this “another strong angel descending from heaven”? What his description by the visionary suggests? What his actions and words mean in the context of the Book of the Revelation? And in which way the text in Rev 10 speaks to us today?

π. Stelian Tofana, Καθηγητής “Who makes His angels spiritis” (Hebr 1,7-Ps 103,4). The christological relevance of the texts”

I will treat this topic from a Christological point of view. The paper will have the following structure being divided into two main parts:

Preliminaries

  1. The messianic interpretation of the Ps 103.
  2. The superiority of Christ according to Hebr 1,7
  3. Angels – “winds” and “flame of fire”. The meaning of the terms
  4. Jesus’ superiority as One seated at the right hand of God the Father

Conclusions

As for the messianic interpretation of the Psalm 103, I’ll try to point out the theological author’s intention in using it. Psalm 103 is a nature Psalm and was well known to Jewish and early Christian worshipers, who sang it both in synagogues and in churches.

The author of the Epistle uses the quotation from Psalm 103 to underscore the subservient state of the angels. They are like winds and bolts of lightning, which are part of God’s creation and completely obedient to his will. The comparison between Son and the angels is a further explanation of the first four verses of the chapter one where is said that God appointed the Son “heir of all things, and through him made the universe” (Hebr 1:2). Therefore, the Son as Creature of the whole Universe is the Creator of the angels, too. The angels, being created must serve the Son and “those” will inherit salvation. Therefore, the quotation from the Psalm 103 reinforces the author’s teaching about the deity of Christ.
